Schriftstücke was an exhibition hosted by the masterclass of “Die Graphische”. The participating students received short stories written by austrian literati, which have been visualized by the students. The outcoming projects were exhibited in May 2016 to the public in the Künstlerhaus in Vienna.
absurd pleonasm - oxymora
The work I developed was inspired by those kind of oxymora. The challenge was to find pleonasms that match the mood of the text. Subsequently they were put in an absurd context, by what new oxymora were created. In this case a ‘quiet silence’ turns into a ‘loud silence’ (lautes Schweigen).
lettering & silk screen printing
To showcase the idea of the oxymora in an appropriate way it was significant to choose the proper medium. The lettering was picked to reflect the modern writing style. This was combined with the traditinal silk-screen printing, which applys to the content of the short story.
exhibition - schriftstücke
To highlight the antinomy between contemporary and the history part of the text, I decided to play with contrast at the exhibition. Some of the silk-screen lettering was printed in white and some in black. I painted the wall in an abstract shape to make every single frame legible.
